SYNC INDEX is a catalog tool for physical printed visual culture. This page covers what data we collect across the web app at sync-index.org and the SYNC INDEX Chrome extension, how it’s used, and what we never touch.

WHAT WE COLLECT

Account information

When you create a SYNC INDEX account: email address, username, display name, and the password (stored hashed by our auth provider, Supabase — we never see the plaintext). You can add an avatar and bio from your profile settings.

Catalog activity

Items you log, save to your collection, save to your wishlist, save as draft, comment on, or include in an index. Items you log are visible in the public catalog by default — the catalog is the product. Your collection / wishlist / drafts are private by default and only visible to you unless you choose to share an index or your profile.

Chrome extension data

When you click the SYNC INDEX extension icon on a webpage, the extension reads the active tab’s content to detect a book (ISBN, Shopify product metadata, page title, Open Graph tags) so it can pre-fill the log form. The extension only reads content from the single active tab when you click the icon — never from other tabs and never automatically. The data read on the page is sent only to sync-index.org when you click LOG or SAVE; it’s never sent to any third party.

The extension stores your SYNC INDEX session token in Chrome’s local extension storage so it stays signed in. The token can be cleared at any time by signing out from the extension popup, removing the extension, or clearing site data.

WHAT WE DO NOT COLLECT

WHERE IT’S STORED

Account info, catalog items, library entries, comments, and indexes: Supabase (PostgreSQL + auth) hosted in the United States. Item images (covers and scans): Cloudflare R2 object storage with the CDN at cdn.sync-index.org.

HOW LONG WE KEEP IT

Catalog items are permanent cultural infrastructure — items you log remain in the public catalog. If you want an item you logged removed, contact us and we can soft-delete it. Account information is kept for the lifetime of your account; if you delete your account, your account row is removed and your personal library entries are deleted. Catalog items you contributed remain in the public catalog (the catalog grows by community contribution; removing every contributor’s items would erase the catalog itself).

YOUR RIGHTS

You can request a copy of your data, request deletion of specific items or your account, or ask any privacy-related question by emailing eric@familyaffairsla.com.

CHILDREN

SYNC INDEX is not directed at children under 13 and we don’t knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.

CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

We’ll update the “Effective” date at the top of this page when this policy changes. Material changes will be announced in the SYNC INDEX product itself.
